You need to keep the ice cube at absolute value temperature! 

However, the mighty flames and magma stones will try to melt you. The ice cube can blast ice projectiles to freeze or put out the monsters. Nevertheless, it will slowly melt itself as it blasts, so be careful.  The ice cube can recover itself by freezing the pools.
